How do I install pickups in my Fender PJ bass?

Sign in to disble this ad
Anyone have any info on this? I have DiMarzio DPS 126's (P/J) and I had the p pickup installed at a shop but the j pickup is too wide. So I'm going to sand it down and make room for it, then install it myself. I just need to know how to.

Any links to FAQ's on this? or infos? Please?

Thanks,
Beau

Sand it down? it must not be too much wider, then.

1) make wiring diagram of existing bass
2) make copy of wiring diagram and modify per new pickup (colours may be different)
3) desolder old pickup
4) loosen strings
5) install new pickup and rout wires into control cavity
6) solder new pickup according to new wiring diagram
7) tighten strings and test

that's basically it.
