Sign in to disble this ad
lets make this short and sweet
i'm a noob when it comes to pickups. i have no idea what each one is, i dont even know the technical difference between a humbucker jazz pickup etc. all i know is that i plug in a bass and it sounds different, whether that difference is bad or good i dont know. lol. anyways. if anybody could help me educate me on the how-to on pickups, and which ones are good to buy. thx for your time.

there are 3 basic types of pickups a single coil(like in a jazz bass)humbucker(music man) and a split single coil(p bass) and on the "which ones are good to buy" it all depends on the type of music you are playing but some brands to check out are seymour duncan,MEC,EMG,bartolini, and dimarzio

Is there a particular sound you'd like your bass to have?

If your not sure about pickups, why do you want to change the ones you already have? Changing your string type would be alot cheaper.

theres a huge difference in pickups... try youtube searching the brand your interested in. if you want a vintage sounding pickup try nordstrand. for modern almost humbucking sound try delanos.

I'd try to get a good book. There would have better information on some great book than over the internet.

You left out stacked hum canceling Jazz pickups (Duncan, Bart, EMG, Carvin, MEC, etc), humbucker Jazz pickups (I make them as well as Joe Barden), and sidewinders (I make them as well as Q-Tuner and Legacy Pickups), which are another form of hum canceling "single coils".

Of any of those configurations you can have many different tones.
