Humbcking Basslines versus quarter pounder

Hi all,
I have a Geddy sig model that was modded by a previous owner. It currently has single coil quarter pounder pickups with an Audere JZ 3 preamp. I get some static/hum every once in a while. I am looking into several solutions, one being stacked humbucker pickups. Could I expect alot of tone difference between humbuckers vs single coil?

Usually the tradeoff with humbuckers is they're less bright, and the QP's are already considerably less bright than standard issue vintage single coils. So you likely wouldn't notice as much difference than if you have regular vintage style J's. But it depends on a lot of factors about the pickups themselves, not just humbucking and single coil, so YMMV.

I'd be looking to something weird in the preamp before I looked at the pickups, though. Pickups don't usually just go bad, and QP's are built solid. Parts in preamps are more likely to be a problem IMHO.

Spray the pots with contact cleaner (Deoxit is very good), and shield the cavities. This might get rid of the static/hum.

The pre amp is less than a year old. Shileding is high on my list of to do's. I really just was wondering about tonal changes with the humbuckers. Thanks
