Humbucker with metal cover
Can someone explain why the metal cover (which I assume ends up grounded) does not attenuate the strength of the signal being picked up? For that matter, shouldn't it completely eliminate the entire signal?

Covers are not made of magnetically soft materials. They do have an impact on sound via eddy currents anyway.
