Sign in to disble this ad
hi, im in the prosses of buying an 80s bc rich 4 string bich that has a single p pickup in it. im looking for a replacement that will give me the best tone and definition clean and distorted preferable not mid rangey with great lows and bright highs and with a humbucker sound. does anybody know if theres a pickup that will fit that bill?

All split P pickups are humbucking.

Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounder P pickups have extended highs and lows and less midrange than most P pups.

QuarterPounders are very midrangy.

There are a few "real" humbucker P pickups; that is with two coils per half. That would be the DiMarzio Split P, the Joe Barden P and my Neo P.

Bartolini also makes a true humbucking P pickup. They call it a quad coil and you can coil tap it too. Unfortunately, it's a soapbar shape so it wouldn't work for you without routing.

ive heard the split p isnt a high powered pickup and has more of a classic p bass tone, im looking for a brighter j like tone without the noise and more power for a passive. i was also thinking of trying a joe barden especially because of the bladed design but yet again ive never heard one in person. ide hate to get a pickup because of the look and not get the sound i want.
