If i had an Aguilar odp-3 with the active/passive bypass switch (as seen on page 2 of this diagram: http://www.aguilaramp.com/pdf/support_wiring_obp3.pdf )and a set of Basslines 1/4 lbs. jazz pickups could i install a good old fashioned tone knob to use when the pre amp is bypassed? if so? how does one do such a thing?

Not too hard. If you have room for an extra tone knob- follow the second diagram (the one with bypass switch) On the DPDT bypass switch in the bottom right corner, the third pin to pin 1 of the DPDT. Wire this to pin 6 of the DPDT. Wire pin 2 from the pot to your tone cap, then ground the cap.
PM me your email and I'll send you an amended wiring diagram.
I'd recommend getting a push/pull pot.
I label the pins on the pot as is you are looking at the bottom with the pins facing up
DPDT Pins
1 2
3 4
5 6

that sounds simple enough... maybe i can make a bit more complicated... since i don't have room for another knob.. could i use a stacked knob? maybe in place of the mid control knob, so that the top is the mid adjust for the pre and the bottom is the tone for the bypassed version. how would a concentric knob work as a tone anyway?

Concentric/Stacked, its all the same. They have the same leads as a regular pot, so its no harder to work into your bass. Concentric controls are pricey, though, expect to pay about 30 bucks for the pot and knobs.

Not sure what bass and how many holes you have to work with, but I would suggest replacing one of the knobs with a concentric and another with a push pull. The way my brain thinks, I would replace the volume with the push/pull and have that controll the on/off and replace one of the tones (mids probably) with the concentric, as you stated above.

its a squire active deluxe V... currently it has 4 knobs and one switch v/blend/stacked bass & treble/ mid... the switch is a slap (EQ shift) switch. i looked at bestbassgear.com and found the setup i wanted.. instead of the switch for the mid selector i will get the mid knob push/pulled for the mid switch and use the switch as the active/passive toggle. they have a 250k stacked volume pot for sale... can i use that as my volume/tone knob?
