| I guess I'm just a Bartolini bridge PU guy My go-to bass is a Fender MIM Jazz. I've had it about 11 years now. Tried a bunch of PUs in it, settled on Barts about 9-10 years ago.
Last year, I found myself wanting more of that open 70s Fender sound, so I tried a bunch more PUs. I ended up settling on a Fralin hum canceling set. While I liked them a lot, I found myself missing that particular grind and growl that the Bart bridge PU gave. So I scored just a bridge PU and installed it with the Fralin neck PU. It's just about perfect. The Audere preamp allows me to balance the outputs so they sound matched.
I had a chance to try it yesterday and it was like having coffee with an old friend. I was about 60% on the bridge PU and that old familiar growl and grind was right there. I could totally control everything by adjusting the blend with the neck PU. Just really really satisfying. I got complements from the sound guy and another bassist about how well the bass sat in the mix.
Happy happy.
