Well, more than one, but let's put all that aside.
I have a set of Seymour Duncan P-J Active pickups, the old ones with dip switches, and have had a lot of trouble finding information on them. I have bits and pieces, but it kind of doesn't clarify anything for me. There are three rocker/dip switches located right on the pickups themselves. In the circuit, there is only pickup, volume, and jack. This formerly produced a very clean tone that has a good bit of bark and each note gets lots of articulation.
A couple of nights ago, they suddenly began producing an excessively bass-boosted signal that is overwhelming pretty much any amplifier input stage. I've tried it through the Bassman 150, the LMIII and a couple of GK heads with the same results. I changed the battery, but no dice. By the way, the switches are showing their age (busted up bad) and quite frankly I'm not 100% sure of their position.
Because these pickups are discontinued and there is virtually no support, I'm not sure they're fixable, and maybe it's time to move on. I think I'm just gonna bite the bullet and buy a new set. I'm thinking passive would be good, because the control cavity is very small and precludes anything in the way of switch or tone options due to the battery taking up the most space. In saying that, I'd like to ask for recommendations and if possible, tips on wiring. This time, I'd like to be able to switch from bridge only to both pickups to neck only, and just run a volume control.
I thank you all in advance for any help or advice. |
