I just bought a bass and theres rust

I just bought a bass off ebay and theres rust on the pickup and the plastic cover can be pushed down and it pops back up. the bass is a fender precision. is this a big problem? I am a newbie and I just wanna make sure its not broken

This is how it's supposed to be. This allows you to set the pickup height.

thanks i didnt know what the metal dots were called but i searched and found out its called polepieces

Some people actually prefer rust on their Fenders !

Round here, we call those folks ... "wealthy" .

it sounds like you have just got yourself a 'player' bass, the guy who had it probably played it alot (hence the oxidation) and so will you congrats.
