I need a G&L expert....

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello,
I need a G&L expert for re-wiring a late 90's early 2000's L-2000. Here's the scenario....

I am wiring each pickup to the "on/on/on" switch, for Series/split/parallel....to an ACG 2 band filter. Any other time, this wouldn't be too big of a deal, however, I'm debating the color coding of the mfd humbuckers.....

This is my best guess at it:
White: north start
Black : North end
Yellow: South start
Green: South end

and the wiring scheme I'm using is this, page 1, the 4th and 5th ones. I wanted to do the north (single mode) for the neck and South (single mode) for the bridge.

I am substituting red with white and white with yellow.

http://www.bartolini.net/instruction...kups4_cond.pdf

After wiring it as above, the single and one side work but not the other... Am I wiring this wrong? Due to being unsure of the *exact* color code of the MFD's, am I substituting the wrong wires?

Thanks

Thanks for the info. I didn't see anything related to the way that i'm wiring this.

For example, this is that bartolini wiring illustration, what would be the substituted wire colors for the G&L, instead of the bartolini colors?

As you can tell, I am not good at reading diagrams, like that G&L schematic, I'm fine if I see it in this fashion above. wiring like this is not my strong suit, bear with me.

I don't wire my switches up like Bart does. I use the regular way you see with DiMarzio, Duncan etc. I do a mirror image for the other pickup.

When I get a chance I'll sit down and figure out his wiring, and then convert it.

The thing to remember is white is (+) and green is ground.

For series the black and yellow connect together.

For parallel yellow and white are (+) and the other two are ground.

PM me with your email address, and I'll send you what you are looking for.

I had a L2500 and stripped out the crappy stock preamp (G&L defence bridage go away), and installed a better one, but I wired the pickups to have the three way switching.

David,
Did you come up with anything? I'm thinking to just do a parallel series, instead. I have been unable to get the single portion to work. The last way I attempted to wire it, it ended up being

series/parallel/ *something really weak*, not even 1/2 the output, so I must be wiring this incorrectly. Gotta revamp the grounding too, the filter with the highs all the way up, does slightly buzz.

Shoot, my tech installed an ACG preamp in my L2000 but I have no idea what he did. If all else fails, let me know because he is a good guy and could probably explain it in detail.

My suspect is that since the switches have been rewired about 5 times now, the heat may have affected at least one of the switches, one switch is now working correctly (Thanks, synaesthesia), ordered 2 more switches, just waiting on them now.

Ok, so I recieved the new replacement switches........now to a new issue.....

I have extremely low output from the neck pickup, the bridge pickup is fine, no issues... I've tried the adjustable levels on the ACG, but to no avail.

Both switches are wired identical.

Now I need to figure out something, If I am using one spot, on the copper foil to ground everything (Solder), could this be why the neck output is so low? I have combined the chasis ground wire (thicker black wire) from each pickup, with the green wire, which goes to ground as well.

one of the lugs on each one of the switches goes to ground and it also goes to the (-) input on the ACG (The ACG has a "hot" (+) and "cold" (-) input for each pickup). I was told by Alan, that a ground could be used, in substitution on a "cold" (-) input.....

Now I'm just getting frustrated...... and I'm sure the guy it belongs to as well..............

I have spent far too long on this, I'm disappointed in myself.

JGroh: Any chance of getting ahold of that tech?

Did you check the pickup on a meter?

This I did not, but I get what you're saying *smacks forehead*. What general reading should I be getting (ohms?) Do I test each coil separately?

Each coil should read around 4.9K.

Also check the hookup wires. Sometimes if you have re-soldered them a few times, they get funky. Might just be a break in a wire.

On another note... I'll be finishing up your pickups and preamp soon, and I apologize for the delay!
