I need a p-bass pickup(off the grid)

Sign in to disble this ad
Looking to put a pup on a parts bass but want to stay off the grid so to speak, no dimarzio,sd,bart, emg, etc. Looking for something thats not too expensive, but is made by a small company off the radar or even if someone on tb sells their own homemade p pups? Looking for something that isnt too hot like a dimarzio dp122 but not something thats low output like a stock pup from a cheaper bass. Looking for something that has low highs with good thick lows and low mids. Not looking for that smack you in the face growl, but want more of the boom. Does this exist?

My brother put a set of gfs pickups on a squier bass and he has been happy with them. There was someone on here once that was selling his own pickups but I cant remember the user name. Sorry

rewound

someone on ebay was offering to rewind pickups(like 20bucks per?),i'd visited the man's site/saved it and all that, sorry, i deleated it,,his site didn't actually show bass pickups per se, i'd search in `musical insturents' for pickup rewind or rewound pickups and then contact the guy and see where it takes you

after BSing with a local tech about Pbass Pups he stated`back in the day' they wound them till they reached a certain resistance(after i mentioned someone on here stated the reissue pups weren't up to snuff),so i'm guessing they wind to a given number of turns?,,blahblah,,if you find some magic be sure and update us eh?

Tone wise, that pickup exists, but it's not exactly off the grid: the Seymour Duncan Basslines SPB-2 Hot for P-bass.

If you want a good vintage style P pickup that doesn't cost too much, check out the Stew-Mac Golden Age pickups.

The Bill Lawrence P-46 pup is one of the best p-bass pups I've EVER used and I don't care how expensive or 'cheap' the bass is and the pup is $46. You won't regret it...

I think they're $60 now, were maybe $56 before? But I agree, absolutely amazing. Really clear but smooth high end, lots of fundamental, I'd absolutely recommend it for shawshank72's needs.

You get them from the real Bill Lawrence, at Wilde pickups.

Because his former business parter got the rights to do business under the name "Bill Lawrence USA", bill now uses Wilde, as in Wild Bill.

Here's the P bass pickups:

Thank you very much, I am also looking at the pickups on your site as well. Might see what the son has in his "dead pile" as he calls it and see how it sounds. Wish there was a sound sample to find online.
