i need a .. pickup? what is it anyways

Sign in to disble this ad
well I see people use them and i know it gives you different sounds... but I have never used one and don't know how big of a difference it can make. i want to buy one, but i have some questions before i do?

what would you recomend i get? i dont want to spend more then 100 dollars...

i want one that can make sounds like the guy off muse uses for his bass...?

where do you plug it into? i have a crate BT50 amp and it has one spot for me to plug my bass into, then it also has one for headphones or somethign, and then 2 little ports... i think its red and white colors on em but im not at home so im not sure.
now that im saying this i guess i should ask another question... they gave me a little box to switch from normal to distortion that plugs into my amp but i dont know how to get it to work, it has a cable and tried plugging it into the headphone jack thing cause thats the only thing it would plug into...

okay well tell me what i need to know about these pickups and effects and whether i should get one now or not

ALSO.
if you have an old one you dont use anymore and r willing to sell it for cheap Ill buy it...unless its crappy

I'm curious/confused, if you've never used a pickup, then why does your bass have a cable jack on it? Do you just have an incomplete bass or something?

And did your Crate amp come with an instruction manual? If not, a quick Google search for Crate BT50 manual pulls up a list of sites where you can download the manual, which explains what all the jacks and controls are for (the bottom of page 5 explains all about "The Rear Panel" and the "Footswitch").

Caleb, Caleb, Caleb. It's OK that you're new to this stuff, of course, but you have to do some reading. Educate yourself. If there's a word you don't quite understand, look it up on Wikipedia or Google. If the shop sold you something and you don't know what it is or how to use it, they should show you. Seriously, go back in there and say "look, I'm young, I'm new to all this, how exactly do I use this amp and this pedal?" They should help you out.

I recognise that you're trying to educate yourself now by asking questions here in the forum, but in order for us to help you "long distance" you need to have some of the basic language down. For example if you don't know what a pickup is, how can we advise you about buying or using them?

This message is not at all meant to be discouraging or a put-down, seriously. I'm just saying stop, take a breath, and start Googling some of this stuff. Then go back into the shop that sold you the amp and pedal, and ask them to show you in a hands-on way how everything is hooked up. They owe you that.

Oh yeah, and read the manual. You owe us that.

If you're hunting for Christopher Wolstenholme's tones you may look into his equipment: http://www.musewiki.org/Bass
Feel free to ask Google what each piece of gear is supposed to do.
Getting a Multi-FX processor is a good idea. Check the effects forum to decide what processor better suits your needs. You may need a less sophisticated one - it will save you both cash and time.
Of course, lots of practice is always a good starting point.

It's "anyway" not "anyways" Nothing makes a guy sound dumber than saying "anyways".. and work on that punctuation and capitalization buddy.
