i ruined my pickups

Sign in to disble this ad
here's my story, I decided to strip the paint off my bass and stain the natural wood, well stupid me thought that taping the pickups would keep them safe from the paint stripper because i thought they were metal, the ended up being plastic and the stripper tore them up, does anyone have any suggestions for a good direct active replacement for my bass, its an ibanez sr305dx, and it had those active dx5 pickups with the 3 and a half nob setup one for volume, one to choose between the pickups and the 3rd tones the highs with the top nob and the lower nob tones the lows, im kinda confused, help me out anyone!!!!

You could probably get them from Ibanez if you called, or look at EMGs, I believe they are the same size.

Get the dimensions of your pickups, and check the pickup manufacturer's sites for compatible replacements...

depending how much you want to spend there are a whole lot of possibilities.

Also, learn from the experience - when you start a project like that, do it right. Taking shortcuts often creates problems - as most of us have learned in ways similar to yours.

He did. There is a possibility of the EMG 40dc working for you, IIRC it should be relatively the same size.

However, the new SR305's have bartolini shaped soapbars, so the real question is: Are they long skinny looking, or slightly wider.

"Bartolini sized"

"EMG sized"

Yeah, I did silly stuff like this too when I was starting out... Stripping a bass without removing the hardware / Electronics? DOH!

Live and learn!

Are the pickups dead, or are just the covers overrelic'd?

Hmmm I'd get the EMG-40HZ since you have a 305....
