I want to change out some pickups

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey TB'ers, a little advice please. I have a 2004 MIM Fender P-bass Special, and I was thinking about changing out the split-coil neck pups with something a bit more beefier. The pups in it now are the ones that came with the bass. I was thinking about Fender quarter pounders. Also, will other brand pups fit the rout in my bass. I almost never use the jazz bridge pickup, so will it make a difference one way or another having a hotter neck pup? Thanks for any advice or help.

Well, Fender doesn't make the Quarter Pounders. Seymour Duncan does. Anyhoo, the QP's are an excellent choice if you are looking for more beef. I have a set in my MIM Jazz and they are by far my favourite sounding pickups. I like them so much, that I bought a set for my American Deluxe J. They are extremely versatile pickups.

Thanks for the help. So the QP's on the neck won't be a problem if I leave the old bridge jazz pup in? I would like to change them both out but I don't have the cash at the moment. I hardly ever use the bridge pup anyway. I like the sound of the neck pups on their own. Again, thanks.

Yeah, go with the Basslines Quarter Pounder P to start. It'll fit right in and you'll notice an improvement in sound, at least when you solo the P. Later, when you change the bridge J pickup, you might consider a stacked humbucker design to give you less noise when the bridge pickup is dialed in or soloed.

I like the Quarter Pounder P very much. It's a surprisingly versatile pickup.

Thanks guys. Now where can I find the best deals on the QP's? Our local music store does not stock them and the owner says he has no "sources" to get them. It kinda sounds like what he actually meant was he doesn't want to bother with ordering them. Thanks again guys.
