Got the neck & bridge set for $92, not too shabby. I'm going to drop them in to my MIM Jazz, so hopefully I can get the sound I am looking for. Anyone else use these pups?

Dropped the QPs in after a couple weeks & loved 'em. Great tone that made up for everything the stocks pups were missing (IMHO) The only issue I ran into was the bridge pup. In my MIM, both pups were the same length. The bridge QP was longer, like the MIA Jazzes. It fit fine in the bridge position, but I had to trim off the ends of the cover. Good Luck!! |

I am hoping for a more modern tone from my bass, and I hear the QPs have these in spades.

This was in the neck position, which is a split-coil config. I will be installing an SJB-3 QP in the bridge position tomorrow. This is gonna be very interresting to hear what it does to my sound.

I wanted to check it out and went in and the salesguy said I could check it out, but if I wanted to play a real bass, I should try his '62 Jazz. Naturally I agreed. He said the pickups were made by his friend Seymour Duncan and they were the prototypes for the quarter pounder. Insanely great bass and great pickups. I keep waiting for a set that will fit into my Lakland JO5.
Edwin
PS The salesman was Bobby Vega. I learned a huge amount from just watching him play that day. He still plays that bass.
PPS. He also had the prototype Badass II on that bass. |

I have a PJ set and I'm putting another PJ set in the bass I'm building now, except that the bridge pup will be an Hot Stack.
Can't wait to try out that combo!

| | floppy b strings | | Join Date: Dec 2006 Location: Bronx, NY | | My friend helped me put these pickups in... I am happy with them, they are much better than the stock MIM set. The neck pickup is way better, but I'm not completely happy with the bridge. It's not very defined and sounds burpy or whatever. I found a pretty good blend of the two pickups and they sound good together. I probably won't be soloing the bridge unless I can find a way to make it sound better. Maybe I have to raise/lower the height? Thanks!

How close to the strings is the bridge pickup? |

The first part of the clip is with the neck wide open, bridge slightly rolled back, tone fully open. Second part of the clip is the neck turned down completely, bridge fully open and the tone fully open. The bridge sounds tinny and undefined.
Excuse the mediocre bass playing http://www.monkeypals.com/SuperSnake.../ifeelgood.mp3

They sound like I hoped they did now. The bass is a lot louder too
