I own two Ibanez basses. An SRX with stock Ibanez pickups and pre and an SR with stock bartoloni mk1s and pre. I love the tone of the SR, it's perfect for me. However the SRX is lacking something. I love the feel of The SRX but it can't fit in the mix like my SR does. I was wondering what preamp and/or pickups would give me a sound like my SR. It is a 5 string bass and I don't want to route the body at all and I would prefer not to have holes drilled for extra knobs.

To answer your question, I'm pretty sure Bartolini makes a set of pickups that will fit your SRX. They also make preamps.

I bought the SRX 2 years ago and last year I bought the SR and I absolutely love the tone it has. However, the strig spacing is really tight and the SRX has the perfect string spacing for me. The SRX is just too weak in the mids I find.

Alternative: Setting EQ knobs at halfway point, or middle detent. And, make small adjustments from there.

So it's a feel issue? I get that. The pickups themselves might be okay, you might just want a different preamp.
If you want a 3-band, a few companies make ones with a stacked bass/treble control and a seperate mid control.
