They are different lengths, so they only fit where they are intended to go.

LJX is long (Bridge)

SJX is short (Neck)

Awesome...thx. Still a no go on install, looks I need to do a bit of wood work around the opening, the area where the screws go on the PUPS are to big to fit into the slot

Time to get out your router and kiss that finish good bye, measuring pickups and slots is a life lesson lots of us have learned the hard way.

And yes, pickups are almost always designed a certain way, even a P-bass pickup has a bass and treble side.

Not all basses use the standard long/short setup. You may have one that needs two longs or two shorts.

When I was deciding whether to put EMG PJX's or regular PJ's in my P Lyte, I had a similar problem. The PJX's fit perfectly, but the J from the PJ set had the exact same problem you had. But I didn't want to remove wood because the finish is pretty good and I wanted to keep it that way. So I ended up filing down the pieces where the pickup screws go in and made it fit without routing the body. Make sure you tape off all the exposed areas that you don't want filed, and just file until it fits. Do a little at a time and keep checking so you don't over-file.

Does the P Lyte use a different size J pickup?

I know the EMG Select Jazz pickups have a funny sized neck pickup. The mounting tabs are the same width as the bridge. I know this because it's the same covers I use.

Doesn't look like it to me. But I've dropped vintage style Fender pickups, Duncan QP's, and a couple different DiMarzios in there besides the EMG PJ's, PJX's, and the stockers, and everything fit except the DiMarzio Model J bridge and the EMG J bridge.

I wish everyone could agree on the size.

Me too. I have no idea why they spec'd the pickup that way.
