Question J-pickup routs

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi guys, I’m kind of new to the TB community so I don’t know if this has been addressed before, but here goes...

I know the neck pickup on a J bass is a bit smaller than the bridge. I was wondering if a neck pickup could sill fit in the rout for a bridge pick-up. I know there would be a bit of extra space around the edges, but would 'nubby' bits on the sides still fit?

I'm wondering because I have a Carvin and they have both pickup routs the at the bridge size. I could just buy two bridge pickups, but most people seem to sell J pickups as a set. Basically I want to know if I can install the neck pickup without any additional modifications. Thanks!

Don't think it'll work, DiMarzio's have the 'nubby' bits in slightly different positions, so I assume most other pups will be similar.

You should be able to tell most people that you want two bridge pups though...

Bill Lawrence, for one, will sell you a pair of bridge length J style pickups that'll work in your Carvin. I'm ordering some for my Bolt 4 to replace the Carvin J99s. From what I've heard, they're a popular pickup for Carvin upgrades.
