J pickups 1 pole piece per string question

This is my first post so bare with me. I have a 1997 american jazz deluxe, it has the 9v powersupply and pickups with one pole piece per string. I'm just curious if these sound much more different then the new pickups on the jazzes with 2 pole pieces per string.
