J-retro 01 deluxe

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi I play a MIM Fender deluxe J and love the feel of it but i feel like there's something missing so i was looking at the east j-retro 01 deluxe preamp. So would it be worth it to pop it one there?

Thanks,
Dean

Since this is about an on-board preamp, the pickups & electronics forum is more appropriate. Also there are a bunch of existing threads on the j-retro if you search.

no problem amigo.

a lot of people dig the j-retro. if your bass sounds thin, it will probably cure that. one thing I didn't like was that the "flat" sound had boosted bass and I felt like I lost some of the "bite" of the passive sound, but that's just me.

i have j retro deluxe on my jazz bass and love it. John offers both one of the best preamp and best custom service.

Yeah, J retro is a killer preamp, nicely voiced, very aggressive on boost cut, it can make your thin sounding jazz roars.

Many people although complains that it not a very "flat" preamp.

Indeed it does add a little bit of bass and treble when its engage. I like that kind of "thickness" very much but some people don't.

However John East would happily make you a "Flat" unit if you want.

I have the same bass as you in a 5 - went from sounding like a J bass to sounding like a monster. I love it! I dont have the deluxe, just the standard j-retro 01.
