J-Retro vs. Marcus Retro?

Sign in to disble this ad
I've read the specs on the various East preamps and and many of the reviews. Unfortunately, I don't understand what I've read in some cases.

From a pure SONIC standpoint, what is the difference between the J-Retro and the Marcus retro?

Anyone know the answer in plain English?

John East's Reply

John East (the maker of the J-Retro line of preamps) answered this question for me via e-mail. I'm posting it here so everyone can see the answer for future reference.

The bass control is at a slightly lower frequency on the Marcus, so it has a bit more feel than hear, if you like, deeper but still defined.

The treble control boosts an octave lower on the Marcus, so it boosts more of a presence spectrum. So a little helps give clarity to the upper midrange, rather than boosting more of the treble, you don’t need a lot of it.

If you want the Marcus sizzle then the pull for bright on the treble helps to attain that, not the treble boost control.

The mid range sweep control and the bright function are the same on the J-Retro and the Marcus.
