J Worrell Pickup Samples

All new samples will be added to this post and can also be found later in this thread.

Some live cuts from my band featuring my Highway 1 P bass with a J Worrell P and a put them on that morning fresh set of Roto 66 can be found below. Vocals were up too high, far too much compression was added, and the drums were squelched but these few turned out alright.

1) Summertime - finger style with tone rolled off 40% or so

2) Outta My Head - finger style with a little slap, tone wide open

3) Fishin' - finger style, tone rolled all the way off

I ran a Fender Bassman 800 head direct with a ~1db boost at 40 hz, ~6 db boost at 120hz, and ~3-4 db boost at 250 hz and all else flat. I'll post better samples from my bedroom later.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Home recordings:

(#1) Here's a pop/ska influenced track with a J Worrell P, and J Worrell bridge humbucker

Signal path:

Recording: Art Tube MP / M Audio Fast Track / Audacity
Processing: Bass track -3db / lead guitar +2db
Guitar layers: Squier Strat / J Worrell bridge humbucker wired in parallel / D'Addario Light Jazz (.12 with a wound G)
Bass: Highway 1 P / J Worrell P / dead Rotosound Drop Zone BEAD set tuned DGCF

Other notes:

The lead guitar was panned to the right speaker so it doesn't cover up everything else. I know it's a little busy so I can also cut it down to separate instrument tracks for anyone interested.

(#2) Here's a sample of a J Worrell Strat pickup in the neck position with a lot of major 7th's.

Signal path:

Recording: Art Tube MP / M Audio Fast Track / Audacity
Processing: Lead +2db
Guitar layers: Squier Strat / J Worrell Strat pickup (neck) / D'Addario Light Jazz (.12 with a wound G)
Bass: N/A

Other notes:

The lead guitar was panned to the right speaker.

Here you can see everything used:

So, here's my plan:

1) I'm going to see if I can't add one or two samples daily, time allowing.

2) I will take requests of songs or styles. Just give me some time to put it together. I've got two new bands who want to record soon and I'm starting one or two new jobs. I'm going to be busy.

3) I'll try running some of my amps as preamps when time allows. The SM12.0 will probably be on the menu first with the SC120 and Bassman 300 Pro to come when neither time nor space is an issue.

(#2) I'll probably redo this one later with some low end but here's a J sample of a Worrell Strat pickup in the neck position.

Signal path:

Recording: Art Tube MP / M Audio Fast Track / Audacity
Processing: Lead +2db
Guitar layers: Squier Strat / J Worrell Strat pickup (neck) / D'Addario Light Jazz (.12 with a wound G)
Bass: N/A

Other notes:

The lead guitar was panned to the right speaker.

Thanks! I wish it was a Back To The Future model, not just a normal one though.

Lots of work this week between bands every night and work every morning. I'll try to have another sample up this evening. Ideas/requests?

I suck and still haven't installed his pickup, but I've really been itching to do it. I'll do it before this summer.

It's okay. I suck and get sidetracked with life easily. I'll probably make a new thread or just update this one after I get some tracks on an album this coming weekend with my P bass and if I can get parts in time, my Carvin. Both of those have John's pickups in them and were two of my favorites to play just for the tone. (This is my honest opinion!)

Update/edit: I'm an idiot. I loaned my Strat loaded with John's pickups to a friend of mine. She sold her guitar to make rent a few months back and can really play well. I wanted to make sure she could keep tearing up the six string but didn't think ahead about sampling. D'oh! I'll get on that soon again... >_<

I forgot my favorite track off the set! It was also played on the P, tone ~40% rolled off.

Summertime
