Jack Casady p/u in a solid body?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm really into the tone on my Jack Casady Sig bass at the moment and was wondering if anyone had experimented with the pick-up in anything else to see how it holds up in a different bass (i saw a picture of a JCS bass with a dark star pick-up instead of the JCB-1...perhaps that pickup went somewhere?)

So has anyone tried putting the JCB-1 low impedance pick-up from the epi Jack Casady Sig bass into anything else?

...because i dont dare take mine out to experiment myself

Hmmmm, that's an interesting idea. Now I need to find a spare JCS Electar pickup.

I've wondered that myself. I love the tone of my JC but am not a fan of it's big body and chunky neck. It wouldn't hurt the JC any to take the electronics out as they could always be put back in if it doesn't work out. Unfortunately, I don't have anything to put them into (at least nothing I don't want to hack up).

I'm another Casady bass fan, I love mine, and I like the chunky neck
Can you get the pickups separately, or does anyone make a similar low impedance pickup? I'd love to hear one in '51 style p-bass

I got a spare JC pickup and I have been thinking of either putting it into a solid mahogny body (something like the LP Triumph bass). Another idea I had was to use it as a neck pickup and make myself a two pickup Jackbass.

It would pretty much be one of these:

The Les Paul Triumph/Recording pickups are low impedance, but are wound with 32-gauge wire and have taps in the pickup, instead of taps in the transformer.

The Les Paul Signature pickups, which is what the JC is a copy of were originally designed by Bill Lawrence, and used thinner 42 gauge wire, but were still low impedance.

The JC bass uses heavy 28 gauge wire, which was the same as the Les Paul recording guitar. He also added an extra magnet under the top three strings.

I've been studying these pickups lately for some reproductions.
