Jack question

Sign in to disble this ad
I know this is stupid, but could wiring a jack backwards cause a ground problem? I put a new jack in a Pbass and now it hums when I am not touching the strings. All the other solder connections look good. Would soldering the connectors backwards cause this ground problem?

Wiring the jack backwards means the bass' ground is connected to the output, so you should get a nasty buzz if you touch the strings.

If you are getting hum when not touching the strings, it has nothing to do with the jack.

Do a search on this: "bridge ground hum." There are a ton of threads regarding the issue you're describing.
