jack repair on a M.Miller J Bass

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi,
the jack ouput of my bass is noisy, particularly an impluse noise can be heard whenever I touch the jack plug or the cable.
It's not the cable (I've tried several cables); I guess I have to see what's wrong with the female jack... Do I have to remove the 4 knobs and then the plate? or do I just have to unscrew the jack nut?
many thanks for your help
JC

Try tightening the nut on the jack first. Don't over tighten it. Just firm finger pressure with a nut driver.

It looks like the pickguard will need to be removed if there is a problem with the jack itself. I've not had a Marcus Miller apart but since it has a preamp, the jack may be soldered in to a printed circuit board and you will need to take it to a tech if you are not experienced at working on PCBs.

Someone who's familiar with the construction should be along to comment further.

Hi mech,
many thanks for the tip. Sounds like properly tightening the nut with a spanner resolves the problem.
Best regards
