Jaguar Tone knob seems like its acting as a Vol knob?

Sign in to disble this ad
i just got a new Jaguar bought used, and i noticed that as i turn the tone knob down its also killing the volume to the point where when it all the way down it mutes the jag. As i turn the knob i don't hear any tone change, it basically seems like its functioning the same as the Vol knob.

I checked a wiring diagram and it all seems fine, so i have to ask is the Jag supposed to do this? My Precision and Jazz function at low volume fine with the tone only cutting tone no Vol loss, Why would the Jag loose volume?

Sound’s to me like the open lug on your tone pot is grounding out.
It's most likely that the pot is positioned in such a way that that lug is touching the side of the control cavity.
Try to loosen the pot and reposition it.
