Which Jazz Bass Active Preamp for my 5-hole bass?

Sign in to disble this ad
I've got 5 holes drilled for the current preamp: vol/vol, bass, mid, treble.

Most likely a switch is going to be too small to use a hole.

The pickups are Nordstrand NJ4SE's.

I'd like something that:

1) Sounds great for rock
2) Has active/passive defeat switch

Suggestions anyone?

I use a Macrus Retro on my MM4.
Absolutely great and versatile preamp!!!
The sweepable mid and "pull for bright" are just fab!!!

John East U-Retro 5 Knob Delux should fit your config requirement. If not, you may always talk to the man himdelf via email and over the phone, swift response and a very friendly man! As I understand he also does custom/ tailor made premaps and config, too.

I have not affiliation with this company and I am just very happy customer!

I don't see how having 5 holes would ever be an issue.

Just about every 3 band preamp on the market is either Vol./Vol./Bass/Mid/Treble, Vol./Blend/Bass/Mid/Treble, or Vol./Bass/Mid/Treble with a 3 way switch, in which case a Gibson style toggle will fit fine.

If you do a 2 band preamp, put a passive tone control in the 5th hole.

As far as the active/passive switch, you can put that as a push/pull switch on one of the pots.
