Is it possible to add a precision pickup in a jazz bass? IS this logical or just plain dumb?

lol, you said:

one would assume there are jazz pups in a jazz bass, and that to "add" a p pup would again point to other pups existing. unless you are not referring to a fender bass, but a custom with soaps, or a blank body, which would not be a "jazz bass", but a bass/body in the shape of the "fender jazz bass(tm)". or do you mean a bass used exclusively for jazz, regardless of shape? yeah, you of course could route out a bass to install a p style pup. lol

Try the Fender Mark Hoppus bass if you don't want to mess with one. Not sure If you want a precision for a jazz neck, but the hoppus signiture is basically a jazz bass but with a p pickup and only a volume knob.
