Jazz bass blend issue

Sign in to disble this ad
I just got a 2008 am std jazz v in a trade, and somewhere along the line it was rewired to volume blend tone. However, if the blend knob is centered there is significantly less volume. The volume will increase as I move the blend to solo a specific pickup with it being the highest when solo'd

Is this common when wired vbt, or do I need to rewire this

some blend pots still have significant resistance in the middle, while others (specifically, those labeled "M/N"), do not.

even with a (theoretically) transparent option like a 3-way switch, there will still be a slight volume drop from both pickups being on, as compared to each by itself.

there's a mountain of threads about this. search "unloaded blend" in the "electronics" forum for one trick i discovered.

I just switched to V/B/T and got a blender with center position detent and has almost no resistance to either pickup in center position. the older pots cut each pickup to half volume or less at center position. Use an Ohm meter to check them. And you have to be sure to use the center lug and the correct side lugs or they still won't work right. Sorry I don't know exactly where I got it. I'll check my ebay purchases and get that info for you.

Found it. It is 250 K fader control WD250 item no.320587150983 from pinupmusicparts.com phone 803-883-2011. $4.95 plus about $5 S+H
I bought it through ebay but dont know their store name or anything any more. Maybe you can find it with this info. I think they are available through lots of places really. Notice mine was 250K, standard for Jazz Bass but you should check under your pickgaurd to make sure yours are 250K also. Make sure you use the correct teminals. Use an Ohm meter to make sure you get close to no resistance at center and each extreme. No more than 10 ohms or so. Hope this helps.
