Jazz Bass bridge grounding strip on early Jazzes

I'm curious about this. I have seen stack-pot basses with and without this brass strip. Any experts clarify when this feature was introduced and discarded?

I believe it was used in the 1962 J bass. eventually to be discarded in favor of the hidden wire system.

That's what I thought. I have two Fender CS stack-knob basses; one from 1991 and the other from 2008 and the former has the grounding strip whereas the latter (and a 62 VRI I also have) doesn't.
