I own a fender USA jazz bass plus from like '90-'91 I believe. It has 2 lace sensor pickups and one of the same kubicki preamps from those x-factor basses. It sounds cool but I want more punch. I play a sans amp into a GK1001rb into an 8x10 cab. Its a pretty noisey bass. Lots of feedback if my levels are wrong or i stand facing my amp. I want to put those quarter pounder pickups in it but I need to know before I blow my money on them if theyre going to make my bass even noisier because of the large pole pieces??? Help!

I have the same bass, '93 model. Interesting, I have the exact complaint (at least the noisy part - but never played loud enough in church to get feedback LOL). Then my neck got messed up from leaving it at church for 10+ years (uncontrolled temp throughout the week - in Cincy the winters are cold and summers are hot with incredible humidity differences). I bought a neck from a '97, but didn't fit right b/c the plus is a 22 fret neck. So I bought a mia standard body to go with my mia neck. Between the noisy pups and the acquard neck fit, the jb plus body and electronics are going on the bay in the next few days. The pickups are single coil, therefore inherently noisy. And that awesome preamp just amplified it to make it worse. So I'd look for something dual coil. I always wanted to try the barts with the dual inline hum canceling coils, but just gave up on it before I got the chance to try. Good luck and I'm interested to know what you picked out and how it works out.

Quarter Pounders should be the ANSWER. Those Laces are very articulate, but they have no balls.

Thing is though, sometimes QP's can be a little hot for some on-board preamps. You'd probably be best off just putting the QP's in and gutting the whole pre. You'd have a very different beast, but it would be a ballsy, punchy, passive monster!

You might also want to checkout the DiMarzio Ultra Jazz pups.
Hot output and quiet...
Lots of punch!

I agree with the previous post, the Lace Sensors lack punch.
