Jazz bass Parallel/Series?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey all,

I'm going to be upgrading the pots and cap in my MIM Jazz tomorrow.

I have a 250k push/pull pot, so i was think about wiring so i can switch between series and parallel.

Has anyone done this, how does the jazz sound in series?

Play any Jazz with the F1 switch!

In series, the bass will be louder, fatter, with less highs.

I had a jazz bass with the S1 switch and I didn't like it...was too boomy and muddy for my liking.

i also think it's a little gimmicky on jazz basses, except for passive 5 strings, where it sounds great, bringing the low B out with the beef it otherwise lacks.

i think the passive fender american jazz V was the one instrument out of their whole range that needed (and should have kept) the S1.

Sorry!

Anyway, I have a 2008 FSR Jazz (4 string) with the S1, and I like it a lot. When I kick the S1 in, I back off on the volume slightly so it is equal to the parallel setting. When the S1 is engaged, only the neck volume works, as the two separate pickups act as a single humbucker. It adds yet another very useful tone to an already very versatile bass. YMMV.
