Jazz Bass pickup height adjustment problems

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi Folks,

I've recently got my hands on a Levinson Blade B1 Jazz Bass.

I'm trying to adjust the pickup heights but am having problems. If I loosen the screws to raise the pickup height the screws undo but the pickup doesn't move. I can pull the pickup up so that it meets the screws but they fall back again. It would seem that there is little or nothing providing any tension.

Would should I expect to find if I remove the pickup completely; should I expect to find springs or some kind of sponge.

Thanks in advance.

Paul.

you need springs to put underneath the screwholes or foam to put underneath the pickup.

I have foam in my sale thread (in my signature.) I might have some springs but I will have to look. foam is cheaper and you might have some yourself.

Thanks for the advice,

I think I'll go the foam route. I have kept the foam from all the Seymour Duncan and EMG pickups that I've bought over the years (I knew it would come in useful).

You can also use sponge material (dry of course ). Just make sure what you use wont break down and fall apart after some time.
a 2 1/2" x 1/2" x 1/2" strip should work fine. Some folks use springs from a ball point pen also.

Go down to Lowes and get a roll of Low Density door insulation strip foam.

You can use a strip or two stacked together under your pickup. The reason for low density foam is you don't need the stiff stuff to raise a pickup. The surface area under the pickup is quite substantial, and even low density foam will provide a strong spring action to your pickup.
