The early gray pickups had only 4 digit stampings.
I don't know if '73 is too early, but I know that the mid-70's had 6 digit stampings which were 3 pairs of numbers. But I thought they started the 6 digit in 74/75 so no one would confuse them as 64/65 numbers.
Both my '69 J and '72 P have 4 digit stamped pickups with black ink. Yeah, my winding wire is dark too (black cherry like).
I've seen black ink 6 digit pickups before, I don't know when they used red ink.
You definitely have a 70's pickup, just unknown which year because it's stamped so blurry and only the lower half of the numbers is there. We're looking at the numbers upsidedown in your picture there, the last two would be the year....does it kinda seem like a 78 or 79 to you?
