I posted a thread earlier on how let down i was about owning a EB/MM stingray, the d and g string didnt seem to cut through like the e and a strings and chords got washed out in the mix. i was wondering, would adding a standard jazz bass pickup to the neck/mid position add a bit more mids and "umph" to the sound? My guess is that it would, but has anyone done this before? any schematics available?
Also, I saw on here that the pickups are wired in parallel, anyone tried them in series? |

I have a Stingray and it has NEVER had a problem cutting. JMHO, but I would not mod the Stingray. If it's not for you, sell/trade and find something that is. I also happen to own a 55-02 and it too cuts like a knife.
Stingrays are great basses and not many people would buy one that is modded unless it is the exact thing they would have done for themselves.
Just my .02 cents...

About series and parallel, Sterlings and SR5, for example, can be swtiched from series to parallel, and I always use them in series, which gives you more mids and a more agressive sound that cuts through the mix a lot better than parallel.

I dont know if i'm going to go about doing it though, I've read some threads that had some pretty good, non-invasive measures of making the strings sound more balanced. I'm interested though in this whole parallel/series switching. I think the SR4 comes parallel, Is there any way to install a switch to go between the two? |
