Jazz Bass Pups more Bass to my sound...

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi! i want to buy new pickups i have an American Standard Fender Jbass and i want to get a more fat but also clear sound...

I like the high punchy tone of the bass but i play rock, hard rock and punk so i want to keep this unique jbass tone and add some more clear bass tone to my sound.

I was between DELANO JC 4 HE/M2,
NORDSTRAND NJ4SE Set
and Bartolini 9CBJD-1 Set...

As i cannot try them which one do you suggest for my tone?

there's endless threads (and even a sticky) comparing different jazz bass pickups.

i like fralins for the "perfected vintage" thing.

You know you're a Talkbass nerd when you see this title and think Jazz Bass "pickup" instead of Jazz Bass "Pus." ...or is it the other way around?

I'd prefer a PJ arrangement in the pus department for what this poster wants...

You should get your bass some antibiotics.

One thing's for sure...don't expect to see Dr. Bass anytime soon

+1 on the Fralins. I think you should check out basstasters.com and look in the "pickups" section.

You might want to read through this stuff below, if you have not already. An answer might be there for you..

SD basslines Antiquity II's. I put a set in my 73 Jazz and it really came to life.

the thing is want to limit the "growl" without cutting my punchy tone and give a push to my low end....

I have a big heavy parts J-bass with a Warmoth neck and DiMarzio Ultra Jazz "Pus" (passive layout). No shortage of punch or low end with this one. In contrast, I also have an oddball J-bass with a pair of Fender Custom Shop pickups - lots of snarl and growl, but not the punch and overall beef in its sound like I get with the other one.

The DiMarzios are humbuckers while the Fenders are single coils, at least as far as I know. If I needed a more quirky, nasally sound for recording, the one with the Fenders might be useful, but for shows, those humbuckers help me to churn out a big, smooth sound. With my volume up, I usually need to cut my bass freq's on my rack preamp to 10-11 o'clock. Even then, the sound is still big and bold.

Sorry for throwing in another option. Feel free to chuck my suggestion if you don't want to complicate things.

i used seymour duncan quarter pound pickups and i couldnt be happier. there a little hotter then normal for a passive pickup but there really grunt and in your face with bass midrange and treble. all i can say is punch punch punch. these are the pickups i would choose for the music your playing. if you listen to alien ant far, rise against, thursday or unwritten law then youll hear those pickups. there awesome for rock.

the model number for the neck pickup is sjb-3n
the model number for the bridge pickup is sjb-3b

they really brought the tone to life and made eqing alot easier. the bass is really outfront and cuts through the mix with ease now.
