Jazz bass replacement pickups

Sign in to disble this ad
can anyone reccoment / vid review some replacement from the stock p'ups in my mim fender jazz bass?

would rather have something either no poles exposed or 4 fat poles. and around 150 a set.

the ones in mine are rusty. got the bass in trade and love how it plays, just been mistreated by the last owner.

and now i get to build another ramp ^_^ built one for my 6 string ibanez and love'em now.

if they work, just remove the covers and clean off the rust. Otherwise SD 1/4 pounders sound awesome on my MIA Fender Jazz Std

Seymours are nice. for a little less top end Dimarzios are great choice. For more modern voicing EMG's. Either active AMG or newest generation HZ's (The emg select are not a good choice imo. While ok for their time frame as first generation emg hz they where ok, but the newer HZ's are much better sounding imo.

ok.. so after looking i'm confused as to wether i have short or long j bass pickups... it's a standard mim jazz bass from 2003-2004

and i'm seeing bartolini j-bass sets for 115-140
also i'm seeing this EMG active set

http://accessories.musiciansfriend.c...Set?sku=301518

i dont mind going active. got plenty of wiring ability but my budget is about 125-175 for a set. what i dont spend on pickups will probably go tward materials for a re-finish and a pickguard. or wood to build my 4x10 cab to make my ampeg b2-combo guts into a 4x10 combo.

just measure them, if they are different lengths then you have a regular neck/bridge set, which I believe post-2000 MIM Js have. if you google jazz pickup size chart there are plenty on the web

I have the NJ4SEs in my J, and they sound nice.

If you'd like to hear how they sound professionally recorded, you can look up my band on iTunes by searching Fullers Field.

I have ramps on my fretted and fretless basses, both with Barts and they feel and sound nice. I really like the rounded feel of the Barts. My fretless has the Classic Bass CBJD1 set and although they don't sound like the best single coils, they have a rich low end and an open midrange. The 9J is lower output and is a more modern sounding pup.
