jazz pup wiring issue - pups louder individually

I have done searches for this but could only find something on the web claiming this is normal for parallel wiring

The issues is that when both pups are at full volume
they are quieter and have a thinner tone

turn one pup all the way off and the other pup is much louder and has a fuller tone

I followed this diagram
http://www.seymourduncan.com/support...=std_jazz_bass

any suggestions?

this is the second or third time i have wired to these pots so maybe i just need to start with new pots?

A ten-to-fifteen-percent drop in volume is normal. If the tone gets extremely thin and extremely tinny, then you've wired them out of phase with each other. Easy to fix that - just swap the hot/ground leads on one of them.

That was it

I switched the leads on one pup and it worked

Thanks!

Good deal! Let me guess - two different pickups from two different manufacturers? The color codes are not always the same...
