Wow, these are awesome! Should have done this long ago. Installed on my MIJ P-bass (had Dimarzio Model Ps before) and they are so much more clear, but still have that woody grindy p-bass tone. Now if only they made Rickenbacker replacement pickups...

It really sounds that much better than the Dimarzio? I've heard the Model P is a great pickup.

I'm not surprised that the Fralin sounds awesome, but I'm surprised that it sounds so much better than the Dimarzio.

I should clarify the Dimarzio is a great pickup too. But the Fralins are the sound I am looking for. The Dimarzio were too hot for me, a little too modern and verging on an active pickup sound.

Fralins have a little less bottom end but they stay clear, never over bearing even with the tone rolled right off. They cut through nicely, where I found the dimarzio cut through with force and volume the fralins find a sweet spot and sneak into the mix just right.

Ahhh I see now. It's more "vintage" sounding - but very clear. I hear that the Dimarzios have a seriously hot output, so I can certainly see the noticeable differences there.

Thanks for clarifying.

Nice description. I agree. I had the DiMarzio for awhile, then Duncan's SBP-2 Hot, then finally the Fralin. The DiMarzio is great for hard rock but IMO lacks vintage warmth. The Fralin has boatloads of vintage goodness, and a strong, gritty punch that works beautifully, and just as well for hard rock IMO as the DiMarzio.

Gotta LOVE Fralins! I have a set in my P and my P-J (10% overwound on the J)... BEST P-J sound ever - IMHO of course

Fralins in my Mike Lull M4V and my Valenti fretless 4. Best pickup I have played.
