EMG Jazz single Coils!

The plan is to put them in my GSR-180. My reasoning behind it is simple: it play's beautifully, the action, neck, body, absolutely everything about that bass is beautiful to me. apart from the pickups! i should have the bass of my dreams in no more than a few days time!
however! GSR-180 is passive, and the EMGs are active... my plan is to buy 2
and connect them, via a triple-toggle switch with a nice long bit of wire, then get a pouch (simmilar to that of a wireless) and attatch the batteries to my strap.
one battery runs out mid-show, switch to the other. when i'm not using my bass at all, switch to no batteries ^.^
Thoughts/feelings/suggestions?
