So I'm thinking about picking up another Jaguar bass to kind of customize and make my own, or even make modifications to my current bass. I think I'd like to start at the pickups.
I'm not sure if I really want to commit to this idea, but I just thought of it: has anybody ever tried 51-style precision pickups in place of J-style pickups? I am assuming it would fatten up the sound a bit, but I could be very wrong. I think it might be interesting to try out: would these pickups be easily switched back to jazz pickups if I didn't like how it sounded? Additionally, has anybody tried these pickups with any sort of preamp before?
