Kay K-2b help

Sign in to disble this ad
I have an old K-2b bass that I am restoring, I need to find a new bridge and the wiring looks dodgy, any one know of any sites where I can track down the part that I need and wiring schematics, thanks. (also I know no one knows the condition since no pics are posted but if any one has any good tips on restoring a old bass let me know)

why do you need a new bridge?

if the old one is still there, you'll have better luck trying to fix the stock parts than finding anything that will fit.

When I received the bass it had some random bridge that was to wide but they had the original and I tried putting it back on but stopped and focused on the wiring but any how that's the original bridge.

These places will have just about anything you'll need... though a direct replacement bridge may test your hunting skills.... I would take some measurements and get something that will fit and work even if it's not a restoration piece.

It really shouldn't be that difficult... [I'd] measure for width and the saddle length and then choose a bridge that has either 3 or 5 mounting screws so I could line the center screw up... filling and re drilling for the new screw holes (if they don't line up with the two existing holes) should be cake, just draw a pencil line (that can be erased) across the existing holes first so you can line the new holes up when it's time to use the old power drill.

Ta DA

Centering the bridge correctly is important... I know I've messed it up before and the G string would slide off the neck.... bummer

lowend, that bridge (minus the ashtray cover) is period ('70's Teisco style) correct, and the stock one didn't look or function much differently. with a little tweaking you should be able to set the intonation. you could start looking on evil bay for the ashtray cover that goes with it,

I have the same exact bass and will be replacing mine from one on ebay and yes the teisco has the same bridge I know because I have one also.

if that's the original, there's no reason at all to change it, especially if you're trying to "restore" the bass.

clean it up a little, lube the moving parts, and keep it; the hunt is gonna be for whatever cover used to go over it, but that's really just cosmetic.
