Kent Armstrong Jazz bass Pickups question

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey Guys, was wonder if any one could help me out Ive resently purchased a pair of Kent Armstrong Jazz bass pickups from ebay thinking they were the Hot Vintage JB pickups.I got them home & found out that there Designed by Kent Armstrong & made by Sky pickups ( a korean make, not american like i thought they would be).

link :http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...4260&rd=1&rd=1

Any one know if the pick ups I have got from Korea are the Kent Armstrong Hot Vintage Jazz Pickup or a cheaper Korean version?

Also is it worth me changing my Japanese Fender JAzz bass pickups for them ? ( any one know from experience if there any better)

Cheers Dave

This is why there is so much debate about Kent's pickups and why the pickups aren't getting much exposure on here. I think if you buy from WD you'll get the Korean made pickups. I spoke to Kent and he's building custom pickups for my next bass. These are far better then their Korean counterparts. I suggest trying to find the real deal Kent Armstrongs and not the Korean knock-offs. Unfortunately, I don't know anything about the model you mentioned. Best of luck to you though.

first off...the Korean pickups are not "knock-offs" (implying that they are copies)....Kent Armstrong pickups are marketed by WD Music and are made in Korea for Kent Armstrong by Sky pickups....these are Kent Armstrong mass-produced pickups and not customs...

for customs, you must contact Kent directly...and you'll most likely pay custom prices, too...

don't expect a custom pickup by Nordstrand, Armstrong, Fralin, or similar for $80....it's not going to happen

Suggestion...you've got the pickups....put them in....try them out....be adventurous....they may sound AWESOME....if they don't, put the originals back in....

why the hesitation? go for it!

I've used the Sky p/ups in a few J basses - they are very nice for the money. Maybe not as sophisticated as SD's or Fralins, but good all the same. Try 'em and see what you think?

I wasn't insulting the Korean mass-produced variety. What I meant was is that many people are confused about what Kent Armstrong pickups are really like due to these. These are good pickups, but not in the same league as the ones he makes for Ken Smith or the ones he made for JP Basses.

faire enough....the custom pickups that Kent Armstrong makes are killer...but you'll not find these on ebay selling for way under $100....

interestingly, usedforbattle said that he didn't realise that these were made by Sky until he got them....but the auction clearly states this...

Likewise, I think the ones WD carries are the Korean made kind. They still say Kent Armstrong, but they aren't made by the man....

i have a pair of kent armstrong jazz humcancelling pickup for sale. They have been wind by kent himself. Very nice person!!!

i would say that they sound clearer then the korean version sold by WD music.

i want 125$ for the set. (i pay half of shipping charges) they're almost new only installed once for a demo.

thanks
