Knob moving freely. Help!

Sign in to disble this ad
I recently got a new Squier VM Jaguar bass (the one with stacked knobs) and have been loving it so far. But something strange happened just a few minutes ago. The tone knob for the neck pickup now moves freely, you can spin it around and around and it will never stop. I have treated this bass like a baby and haven't banged it against a wall or anything like that. I have had it for three days now. ***?

So, any ideas about how this could have happened and how it can be fixed?

Is there a set screw in the side of the knob?

Yes: Turn it clockwise with a small flat jeweler's screwdriver.
No: Read on.

Has the metal knob come loose from the plastic insert?

Yes: Remove and repair with superglue.
No: Read on.

Does it still function as a tone knob?

Yes: Your tone pot's wiper is defeating the stops.
No: Replace pot.

Is the pot spinning to wrapping up the wires around it as it goes? Lol. One of the first things to do with any new bass or guitar is check all the screws and nuts for any loose one and tighten any such found.

Any of the above. It's easy to remove the control plate and take a look.

Lowendgenerator: cool step by step.
