KUBICKI Bass pick up change

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a KUBICKI bass and it's a delight to play. All the posts about build quality and ease of playing are all true. I bought the bass in 1990 and probably have done over a thousand gigs with it.

I do however wish it had a warmer/woodier tone like a P bass. When I talk to my friends they say just get a P bass, but the fact is the KUBICKI suits me as I have small hands and fingers and well the whe bass is so perfectly balanced.

I'm a groove player. I'm not really into slap. I play 60/70/80's rock, some blues and jazz.

The kubicki has a great sound but I just want a bass that 'sings' up the neck rather than goes twang.

I read on another thread how someone popped some EMG pick ups in their KUBICKI. I can only think they were trying to make the KUBICKI sounder Fendery.

So what do I do? What pick up will get me away from the twang and give me a more traditional sound? Is it possible on the KUBICKI to achieve this?

Great bass the kubickis but just don't sound like a bass for mind. Recording wise for me they are not great. Too much top end and when u wind the treble away the presence just goes.

Awesome live basses though and again I can't stress enough how comfortable they are to play.

Do not mod the Kubicki. For the cost of redoing the electronics you could buy one of the cheaper P basses (Squier or MIM) and have both.
