Cool Lace Alumatone Bass Bars

I just put a pair of the 4" in my Lakland Skyline 55-01 and they sound better than any pickup I've ever used.

I was certainly not prepared to be knocked out by these.

I've tried Bartolini, Duncan, and Lane Poor in this bass looking for the "sound" and the Alumatones have beat all of these hands down.

These have a clarity and transparency that I've never heard in a pickup before. Its like a blanket was lifted from my amp and I have a new bass.

The sound is balanced from top to bottom. No weird bumps in the frequency response and they are totally, dead quiet.

For the first time, I don't have to use my eq controls to "fix" the pickups. Now, I can use them to adjust my tone as I need.

They have a surprising amount of output and physical magnetism so I adjusted them lower than "regular" pickups to prevent magnetic pull on the string (which causes string oscillation and intonation problems)

And, they work great with an on-board preamp, no problems whatsoever. I can't wait to get a set of the Jazz Alumatones for my USA Jerry Scheff.

These will be killer in the studio.

Do yourself a favor and check these out if you have the opportunity.

I have a Alumitone P pickup in my "workhorse" Precision Bass, and I'm VERY happy with it. While not a "traditional" P Bass tone, it's extremely wide range and usable. I would think the Bass Bars would be excellent as well. Good to know that there are others out there who like their Alumitones !

Just curious to see if either of you have had issues with your Alumitones being microphonic? I seem to be able to tap on the body of the pickup, or rub the mounting screw and have it come through the amp pretty clearly. I love how these pickups sound (BassBar 4.5's) but the noise may be an issue.
