Lace Alumitone -- J vs Bassbar

I have a set of Lace bassbars on one of my basses, which I really like, and am wondering if anyone out there has experience with both the Bassbars and the Aluma-J models. Are they very different sounding, or else pretty much the same but in different shapes?
