Lace Alumitone for Jay Turser JTB-401?

I know it's guitar pickup, but pickup on 54 P which is copied by JTB 401 is basically guitar pickup, too.

I'd like to hear your opinioin.

a.) who cares if it's a guitar or a bass pickup. How does it sound? (hypothetical question - if you knew how it sounds, you wouldn't be asking for 2nd opinions)

b.) I'm a Birdsong player and the 2-pickup Birdsongs have a Lace Gold Sensor single coil at the neck. A guitar pickup! Absolutely my favorite bass sound right now. I rarely have the bridge humbucker on at all. I have a Lace humbucker at the neck in my other bass (again, technically a guitar pickup) and I love it too.

So what I'm saying is, while I can't vouch for the Alumitone, I can vouch for Lace making good guitar pickups that sound great in basses.

And if and when you find out how it sounds, post clips. I'm fascinated by these things.

From the YouTube video Lace Music posted of their Helix bass, the Alumitone should sound fine. They used what appears to be the standard guitar humbucker-size (like a PAF) Alumitone in the Helix, and it sounded quite good as I recall. It should certainly work - am I correct that the Bronco bass uses (or at least used to use) a pickup not much different from that of a Stratocaster? If you think your Turser needs the upgrade and you can afford it, I'd say go for it. If all else fails, you can put the stock pup back in and shouldn't lose much reselling that Alumitone. And if it turns out you've found a winner . . . well, I'm sure we'd all appreciate a sound clip or two. ^_^

Interesting experiment. I've read reports of people trying other pickups - including Fender pickups - in those basses, and then re-installing the Turser pickup because they liked it better. I know my Turser 401 sounds mighty good with Labella Deep Talkin' flats.

If the Lace turns out to be 'better", then a detailed definition of "better" would be much appreciated!
