What do y'all think about wiring up a set of J-style lace sensors w/out the pre-amp?

What is the general opinion of these once revered kings of the Jazz V today?

Should I use a.022 or .047 orange drop in the tone wiring? (I have both onhand)

I have a set but I have had bad experiences with active pickups in the past. I don't mind passive pickups but are these gonna sound like butt?

Are Lace Sensors actives? I thought they were passive.

They are out of a Jazz V plus with the Kubicki pre-amp. I would like to get that thing out of the equation just for simplicity/ dependability reasons. I think I'm gonna sell the preamp. The pickups plug into the preamp via a wiring harness. I don't wanna cut the harness off if the pickups aren't gonna work out.

IIRC they are not active but you can contact AGI to have an informed opinion

Don't know about the Jazz Bass pickups but I used to have a Franken-bass with a P Lace Sensor and it sounded the business whether I had a preamp in there or not. I should have kept that pickup when I sold that bass.

Hey guys.

Mike from Lace Music here.

You can use any of our pickups passively - That's how they're designed (we like to say "batteries are for flashlights!") Put a pre in the equation and you'll have MEGA output. They'll work either way.

Thanks,
MikeG.
