Lakland 55-02 bart PUP question

Sign in to disble this ad
i been really considering buying one of these fine bass, after trying so many 5 string basses around the $2500 mark, i really love the neck on the Lakland and the tone that it had. But i read numerus times that Barts are tame and lack punch, which may be a problem as i play in a metal band and a alternative band. Would the 55-02 have enough poke to get through the mix? ive also read that it has a Gain switch which may be able to give it a bit more Oomph.

My 55-02 has plenty of punch! It really depends on your string choices, EQ and PU selection, and playing technique. Also, it can be as aggressive as the rest of them, you just have to know how to get it out of the bass.

With the switchable mids (inside cavity), You can get a wide range of tones. It depends on what kind of tone you want, heavy and supportive or brighter and snappier. It's all in the bass.

It does have a gain control inside of the control cavity. I'm not sure of the exact amount of boost it gives, though.

Most people who claim that the 55-02 is too tame simply haven't taken enough time to really learn how to get "their tone" out of the bass. It's all there, you just have to squeeze it out.

metal and alternative? imo, no. thats a pretty tame electronics package and doesnt pack much bite. if you like the neck have you tried the 55-01?

Thanks for the thoughtful post ElBajista, i'll have a good muck around on one at the bass centre and ask the tech there if he can open the cavity up and allow me to use those dipswitchs.
